When I look back at whatever months i have spend working with my current company, the month of july is definitely not something I can feel elated about. Whatever be the reason but I dint perform as per my expectations. In office, most of the time, I was doing nothing. A feeling started sinking in that im a useless or rather an inefficient employee.
So, I thought of recharging my battery by spending weekend with bhai-bhabhi at Mumbai and start afresh on Monday. I wake up early morning on saturday as I wanted to board Deccan Queen 7.15 am. Finally, I got the ticket after standing in a long queue. But the problem started when it came to searching the ladies general boogie. To my astonishment, there is no separate compartment as such in Deccan queen for regular travelers like Mumbai locals or mumbai-pune intercity express. It came as a shock to me.
There was one boogie for pass holders where 80% of the seats were reserved for pass holders. If anyone wants reservation in ladies local compartment, they have only 20 seats at their disposal and this reservation has to be done 1 day in advance. If some1 wants immediate tickets, no denying that they will get tickets but there is no assurance as such that they will get place to relax their bum. They have to manage among whatever seats left unreserved among 20 seats (which are not occupied by the pass holders). So, you can understand Indian Railways don’t take pain of informing the new travelers of the reservation status.
The attitude of Pass holder females in itself a very interesting story. Most of the passholders seats were vacant but they dint let anyone sit there.. Most of them were sleeping and on an average each female was occupying 2.5 seats (I actually counted it). We were absolutely at their mercy. Finally, after standing for almost one hour a chubby lady sympathized with us and gave me some place.
I had a small conversation with one female who was observing my plight throughout. What she advised can be beneficial for all of us. She suggested me never to take permission from pass holders. While traveling if any of those passholders asked you just tell them that you are yourself a pass holder and later on in case TT comes, paying him a fine of Rs.15 can avail us that seat and that’s it. Most of these ladies are already sitting on their seat and thus they have no rights to stop anyone else.
Thus, while traveling I learned one good lesson that honesty is not always the best policy.
